Effective Trade Show Giveaways

As a trade show exhibit design company, we attend a ton of trade shows (over 150 a year!). With all of that exposure, we've seen a large variety of trade show giveaways. We've some some that work, some that don't, and some that are just plain bizarre. We wanted to share with you some of the most interesting...

Customized Piggy Bank

Branded Foam Gun

Engraving Pen

When brainstorming how you are going to make yourself stand out at the next trade show, think carefully about the items you will be giving away. The more useful and unique your item, the more likely it will be taken. A best practice is to try to choose a giveaway that you can somehow tie to your brand. This will ensure better brand recognition and ensure your company stands out in the attendees mind. For more of the best trade show giveaways, be sure to check out trade show giveaways from GD Solutions.

Free Logo Desgin Information

Free Logo Desgin Information

A corporate identity is the brand which represents a business or its product. Logo perpose is to create a memorable, recognizable impression on the mind of a potential client or customers. The logo design is essentially at the heart of a business identity.
So what makes a "good" logo? Most customers would answer "I’ll just recognize it it when I see it!" and this isn’t a lie. A great logo design catches the eye, it makes the observer engaged, if only for a short moment. There is three standard variations of logo designs, which can be used alone or mixed within 1 image of your logo.
Illustrative logo designs (A logo design which clearly illustrates what your business does)
Graphic logo designs (Logo that includes a graphic, often an abstraction, of what your business provdies)
Type based logo designs (Text which represents your business)

Many graphic designers prefer to design logo designs using fonts. Experimenting with font family, size, shapes they seek to find an interesting way to represent the company using the form of font effects. Simplicity is super important, this is not the time to use fancy decorative photo filters. Whether alone or mixed with illustrative graphics, the text in a logo design must be easily readable at far.

Designing a corporate identity is always a step process, though different designers have their own methods. Many designers will begin by sketching thumbnails or playing with shapes on the computer screen, until it "CLICKS" and they follow that path to see where it leads. One way to start is to select a shape which represents the idea of the company, and begin playing with it. The idea is to come up with something interesting or clever, whether a viewpoint which is different, or an unusual combination of objects. Perhaps it will be something which will require a little guesswork on the part of the viewer, but clear when they look at it another way.

Car - SUV - Van - Truck Graphics

I work through the rainbow of marketing and branding it seems that car graphics are becoming more mainstream and more important to businesses. Direct mailers reach about 20,000 vs vehicle signage graphics garners about 8.4 million impressions in a year. Now multiply that by the amount of vehicles you have and the amount of hours spent driving through the streets of California.

Vehicle advertisement has long been recognized by the savvy businesses as an extremely cost effective tool to build brand awareness and leave long lasting impressions on potential customer's.

In the past the graphic designers at GD Solutions have designed one well recognize van in Southern California which belongs to a company called Gorilla Marketing in Riverside, CA. You may have seen the neon green van with a gorilla image on the side driving around if you live in the So Cal area. Positive feedback always reaches the office regarding the graphics on the van and curious about the application, price and the company has to offer. What better way to make customers call you simply because you have a cool vehicle.

Business Logo and Company Identity Components

1. Values – Use ideas and values that is more important to your company. What do you have that other don’t?
2. Personality – What characteristics do you want to show off? Are you serious, fun, or classy?

3. Behavior - Your company's image includes how you act toward customers and the public. Things like how you answer the phone, how you greet shoppers, how cheerfully you correct mistakes or accept returns all become bound up in one composite image of your company.

4. Price – Image can also relay to how much a service or product is. Have been to the mall and passed by a store and say “That store looks expensive”? if you project classy and sophisticated logo and identity most likely your products will be expensive.

5. Range – Do you only sell golf balls? Or do you sell sporting goods? Projecting this in your logo is important too. Do not want a logo with a golf ball as a dominant graphic and in fact you sell footballs and baseball goods as well. Remember that the best solution is always the simplest ones.

6. Longevity – If changing your logo you might want to incorporate the year you were established.

7. Slogan – Slogans help describe key features of your products or services. Normally tends to be catchy.

8. Benefits – What do you customer get when you order from you. Show them you can make a difference.

10. Use these key components to help your graphic designer create your perfect logo. They will use fonts, color, shapes that are relevant to your business products or services.

Company Branding Tips and Ideas

1. Be different – Stand against the competition and create a new distinctive identity to separate yourself from the others. Never try to copy a look or feel of some else company.

2. Repeat your brand – Use your company logos, fonts and colors over and over again to create your brand. Use this on custom printed products, website pages or anything tangible property you own as a business. The more they see your designed logo the better.

3. Be consistent – make sure your logo and color are not diluted throughout your marketing campaign.

4. Be persistent with your image – try never to change your identify unless it is time to do so.

5.Do not Dilute your brand – Don’t give the impression that you can do other things or services by adding more information to your logo. Use marketing techniques to spread the word but leave the logo intact

6. Spread the word – give away custom imprinted products with your logo. The more the customer base sees it the better it will be for them to remember who you are and what you do.

7.Word of mouth works – when giving away promotional products be sure to include business cards and other small items that the other person can hand out and tell their friends. Do it in small quantities.

8.Evolve when necessary – Change is good, but it must be when pushed against the wall. Changing your image or restructuring your company is a big step, but if you seem things can come best when these are changed then do it.

9. Be creative – use clever ways to spread the words beside the traditional ways

10. Protect your investment – consult with a legal consultant to protect your branding image.

What is Process Printing ?

Definition: To reproduce full-color photographic images, printing presses use 4 standard ink colors. The four inks are placed on the paper in layers of dots that combine to create the illusion of many more colors similar to a tv set. CMYK refers to the 4 ink colors used by the printing press. C is cyan (blue), M is magenta (red/pink), Y is yellow, and K is black, the key plate or keyline color.

This process has been the most popular because it is simple, takes only 4 plates / screen / inks to produce multicolored images. From your magazines to color news papers, the CMYK or "Process" Printing will conitue to bring you rich colored images.

Remember - You can't trust your monitor or your desktop printer when it comes to accurate color-matching. Pantone guides are a far better way to choose colors for your printed projects. Find just the right color for the paper stock you'll be using. One of these swatch books are what you'll want to add to your toolbox for all your process (4-color/CMYK) color needs.

Networking can be the first step to success

Networking is one of the best self mouth to mouth advertising you can give your company for virtually $0 dollars. Below i've listed a couple of tips to help your network with local partners.

1. Find 2-4 Companies

Where does your ideal customer shop or visit the most? Where do they like to eat? Create a list and then prioritize.

2. Contact the owner or manager
Arrange a meeting with the owner of the place and establish a great relashionship at first then, as them if you can post some literature of yours this will open the door to new traffic. Swaping literatre is also a great idea. In return for posting your literature you can post something of his on your website or location of business. Maybe an ad or menu.

Remeber to always post your website on your literature, everyone tends to check out the business online rather than calling someone.

Art of Screen Printing

Screen printing on shirts has been one of the best advertisement that you can do, specially for your consumers that really like to show off that fact that they are associated with you in some way or form. There are many ways to decorate a garment; embroidery (stitching), Airbrushing (hand painted), embellishments "(beads/applique) but the most popular and less expensive is screen printing.

What is screen printing? A planographic process in which the design is transferred onto a screen of fine mesh fabric with materials that can either resist or absorb ink. Garment is placed under the prepared screen, to which inks are applied. Using a flexible blade or squeegee, the printer pushes the ink through onto the garment.

But how is it done?
1. It all starts with the designer; he/she create the logo or design to be used on the shirt on the computer using the industry standard for graphics program (adobe Illustrator) and preparing the artwork in a vector format environment for spot print or bitmap for process print.

2. Once the design is complete and approved individual clear plastic films are printed in black ink. 1 film per each color of the design. for example, if your design is GD in red and Solutions in white you will have 2 films. One will contain the letters GD the other will contain the words Solutions in the locations where once put together will create the illusion that they are next to each other GD Solutions. The films are printing with black in only.

3. Using frames that have a screen stretched on like, similar to your screen door in your house but mutch finer gets a coat of a liquid mask substance that once dry will act a mask for the design. the Film created in stage 2 is then placed backwards on the screen then placed in a vacuum glass table to hold it in place. Special lights are then shined only the screen and film, within in minutes parts of the mask solution that is not oven by the film (design in black) are burned (cooked and made solid and strong) and parts that are behind the design from the film stay fresh and soft. The screen is then taken to washing unit where the soft un-coked design on the screen gets washed away leaving being an open field with in the mask in the shape of your design. That whole is where the ink will be pressed through.

4. The screens with the burned design get placed on a rotating machine (manual or automatic). A test paper is placed on a fixed base (where the shirt get's put on) and the screens are aligned to each other according to the design to assure correct alignment and location. After all is set, the shirts are slipped on one at a time over the fixed base, the screened are lowered one at a time, the ink is pressed through using a queegee type tool, the screen is lifted and the ink stays on the shirts in the shape of your screened mask. the process is repeated for the next color until the design is completed. The shirts are then dried using a special like oven.

The proceed gets repeated if you have different locations on the shirt (Front, back, side, sleeve and so on) the but once set up you can print hundreds of shirts with precision fast.

Color Theory in Design

The design, artistic and mechanical theories behind Marketing and Promotions is more deep than you think. Color can be used to change some ones emotions and to trigger chemical changes in their brains. The brain re-acts to different color as it re-acts to sounds and feel. Using the art of color theory we're able to create emotion. Whether its making some one feel hungry or exited for example:

McDonalds - All through their branding they use golden yellow and red which trigger the brain into feeling comfort and when your comfortable you tend to eat more. Same has been applied to Jack in the Box (red), Burger king (orange yellow)

Night life - Clubs and night event tend to use black in their promotions with bright colors like red, green, red, white making for an exiting flyer and making your feel exited to attend this event.

Automotive Dealers - They use your white, grays and 1 strong color like red or blue. The white and gray makes you feel secure and safe the additional strong color represent power. Safe in your car while having power?

As you can see COLOR is very powerful. When creating a brand do a little research and look at your competitors or look at brands you want to copy.
